The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, says state
governors decided to approve $1billion from the Excess Crude Account for
the war against insurgency after attending a national security summit
organised by the National Economic Council.
Professor
Osinbajo disclosed this on Tuesday at the start of the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation/Secretaries to State Governments’ retreat
at the Presidential Villa.
“It was after a national security
summit of the National Economic Council (NEC) that Governors at their
forum decided to approve some money for national security,” Osinbajo
explained.
The decision to withdraw $1billion from the ECA,
approved by NEC on Thursday, has generated debate with many questioning
the rationale behind spending such an amount after the Federal
Government said it had technically defeated Boko Haram.
